Scholarships

Each semester, Manor Education Foundation (M.E.F.) awards grants directly to educators in Manor ISD. All grant recipients utilize innovative approaches to solving today's educational problems. To date, M.E.F. has contributed over $59,000 to Manor ISD educators.

M.E.F. seeks to fund projects that will help students by:

  • Promoting proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Building upon their communication, interpersonal and life skills.
  • Enabling them to benefit from creative experiments that educate in new, strategic ways.
  • Increasing their self-confidence and awareness of real-world opportunities.
  • Incorporating parental involvement and technology into the learning process.
  • Encouraging teachers to conceive and implement innovative learning methods.

Grant proposal deadlines:

  • Fall 2008: April 25, 2008 at 4:00 p.m.
  • Spring 2009: November 28, 2008 at 4:00 p.m.

  • Selection process

    1. Application forms may be obtained from the M.E.F. offices.
    2. Grants must be reviewed and signed by your principal or supervisor.
    3. Signed applications must be returned to the Manor Education Foundation office by the Grant Proposal Deadline.
    4. The Manor ISD Education Foundation Program Committee will review applications.

    Guidelines for Grant Application:

    Purpose:

    The Innovative Education Grant program is designed to encourage, facilitate and enhance innovative and creative instructional approaches to accomplish Manor Education Foundation goals and objectives.

    Persons Eligible to Apply for Grants:

    Any individual or a team of individuals employed by the Manor ISD who is involved in the instruction of students and related support services benefiting students.

    Eligible Proposals:

    Instructional approaches or projects designed to begin in the current school year and which meet the selection criteria.

    Award of Funds:

    • All grants will be limited of up to $2,000 for programs or projects initiated by individuals or campus or department teams.
    • The number of awards will depend on the funds available from the Manor ISD Education Foundation.
    • Funds must be expended within one year of receipt. Unused funds must be returned to the Foundation.

    Selection of Grant Recipients:

    The Manor Education Foundation Program Committee will review applications and recommend grant proposals for funding. Selection will be based on the quality of the program and the listed selection criteria as well as amounts requested relative to funds available.

    Selection Criteria:

    • The degree to which the proposal addresses the Manor Education Foundation's mission, goals and/or objectives.
    • The degree to which the proposal represents a creative or innovative approach to accomplish the objectives. The degree to which sound evaluation procedures are incorporated in the proposal.
    • The degree to which the proposal is clear and logical, including (a) specificity of measurable objectives; (b) clarity of description of instruction procedures, methods or treatments; and (c) communication of demonstrated need.

    Overall Guidelines

    Grant applications must include:
    • A clear, concise organized plan for use of money granted, with specific evaluation steps and criteria.
    • A detailed itemization of all costs and materials.
    • Correct grammar and spelling. The application is a reflection of the professionalism of the staff member(s) submitting the proposal.
    Preference will be given to proposals that:
    • Focus on increasing parental involvement.
    • Benefit large numbers of students.
    • Are creative programs rather than commercially available packages.
    • Share materials and/or techniques between grades, groups, schools, etc.
    • Incorporate non-district matching funds or community resources.
    • Utilize durable reusable items.
    Grants will NOT be awarded for:
    • Salaries, staff travel or food.
    • Costs and items that may be available through district, state or federal funding.
    • Requests that exceed the stated dollar limit.
